Hurdles???

I'm wondering if i would be good at hurdles. 110m, or 400m. My 400 time was good for a frosh(57.2). But my 100 sucked lol(13.0). I have a pretty good long jump (17'2") i don't know if that matters. I have 800m endurence. We didn't have a hurdle team this year so I wanted to help the team out and try them next year.|||If you are in high school you should run the 300 hurdles. The 400 hurdles does require endurance, it is effort wise like running about 425 meters. A good 400 hurdler can run the hurdles 2 seconds slower than they run the 400 meters. It is a technique event, so you need to learn to hurdle. The long hurdles are 36 inches tall and the 110 hurdles are 39 inches for high school boys. If you are serious you can start learning the basics with drills before trying to run over the hurdles. You will need to learn to lead with either leg because as you tire and your stride shortens you will not be able to run the entire race with the same number of steps between the hurdles. Since you are learning everything practice lead and trail with both legs. Set up some hurdles 35 meters apart and jog beside them pretending to hurdle. Then go over the hurdles set lower than 36 inches. After you feel comfortable set them to 36 inches and try that.|||I don't do hurdles, but my teammates say it takes speed and agility. So, if your a good sprinter that helps, and long jumpers usually have good agility... so sounds like you'd be pretty good.

I would recommend the 400 hurdles for you, because 110m definetly takes a lot of sprinting speed once you get to a competitive level. Your 100m time might not cut it.

Good Luck!|||ok it sounds like ur doing good, i find that it is easier 2 start small and work ur way up. get used 2 the proper form 4 maybe just a few hurdles, like 3 or 4 then work ur way up. Try 2 have only three steps in between each hurddle so u can lead with the same foot each time. good luck
