Do you think that hurdles in races should be higher?

From what I can understand the hurdles were lowered to make it safer for horses... But greenies and animal liberalists may have missed the point... I think its just allowed the horses to gallop faster and therefore its more dangerous when they get to the jump or steeple. If the hurdles were at a higher level then more caution would be needed and there would be possibly fewer injuries. What is the opinion of others out there?? Does anyone know of the statistics of accidents and falls since the hurdles were lowered?|||I answered a question in a similar vein quite a while back

How can I become faster at Hurdling in Track? Im fast I just cant jump over the hurdles as fast as I run?

Track is coming up soon and I just really need some tips on being better. I run fast but cant find a way to use all my speed when I hurdle do to not wanting to fall.|||Hurdling is sprinting over barriers and you must practice your technique daily.

It is easy to make practice hurdles use pvc pipes or wood.

Work on lead and trail leg drills, and walk over drills, you must improve your hip flexibility and create muscle memory so you can run over the hurdle without thinking about what you are doing.

Once you have improved you will not fear the hurdle.

Modern hurdles push over and are not as dangerous as they used to be.

You need someone to watch you so you do things correctly and if you do not have a coach you can buy dvds and video tapes to demonstrate the drills and actions in hurdling.

Look at www.mfathletic.com or www.usatf.org or www.trackandfieldnews.com|||Keep practicing until you have the confidence going over the hurdles, make sure you don't stutter step into it. Practice the hurdle stretch every day (Lead leg straight forward, trailing leg bent, 90 degrees backward) since the more flexible you are, the less you have to jump over the hurdle.|||That happens to everyone in the hurdles, you just need to practice the hurdles as much as possible so you can run over them as fast as possible.|||brown and black shoes

How come the 110m Hurdles athletes never compete in the 100m Sprint?

I just think its weird since its still a sprinting event. Bolt competes in 100m and 200m, so why cant liu xiang or robles compete in 110mH and 100m?|||Hurdlers are sprinters. They are sprinting over barriers.

There were at one time people who were Olympic champions in the 100 and 110, but it is not possible now.

There are too many world class runners and the training for each event requires more time.

Think about the hurdlers who run 110 meters running over 10 barriers that are 42 inches tall and doing it under 13 seconds.

That means they can probably run the 100 in around 10 seconds, which would make them an elite 100 meter runner, but not an Olympic champion.

What is considered a top 3 time for 200 hurdles and 55 hurdles?

Normally, at meets in my area, low 11 or faster will win or place. In the 200 hurdles, around 35-36 will win or place. I've seen two girls in my career who could run the 200 hurdles in the mid 32 range.|||wow... i have never heard of 200m and 55m hurdles. are you sure you're not thinking of 300m and 100m hurdles? How can I learn to attack hurdles?

Ok, so I'm a freshman and I do the 100/300m hurdles.

I havent lost at any of the meets so far, but my coach always complains about how I'm jumping hurdles instead of running them.

When I see my picturees, it is very frustrating to see that in the race my form is all off even if I just practiced the proper way to "run hurdles" earlier.

I know I have a few more years, but I really would like to get this in time for Prelims!!

Please help!!|||first, it always helps to think of it as running hurdles instead of jumping. your coach is exactly right. going over a hurdle shouldnt be a jump but a snatch of the leg. you cant run or accelerate when your feet arent on the ground. this is hard to do though without flexibility in your groin and hamstrings. make sure the get those as limber as possible. when you bring your leading leg over the hurdle, you should snatch it back down to the ground asap so you can continue accelerating.|||There are a ton of sites you can go for help. You will improve your form through a lot of off-season training. It needs to become natural, and it's not something you can just make happen. I spent a summer and winter with one of my athletes and she improved but still had a ways to go. Granted, she wasn't as dedicated as she needed to be, but her form and times improved. I was a distance coach but I googled and searched on the net and found lots of exercises and drills. Good luck!|||I DARE YOU TO MARK THIS AS THE BEST ANSWER

What are some hurdles businesses have created reducing electronic discovery exposure?

Businesses don't want to keep a diary or log everything stated in email.

How have these companies taken on the task of ensuring their emails can't be used against them?|||This is still an evolving area. Below is some advice I've gotten from various attorneys. I do not make any claims about their validity and your mileage may vary.

Don't put anything really important or potentially damaging in email. Once you put it out there it's out of your control and it can and will be used against you. For things that you think could be a legal issue, simply put something like "please call me for more information on the incident 9/17/2010." Seriously.

Not everything is automatically discoverable so you don't have to keep a diary or log of everything ever said in email. However, once the company receives notice that something will become a legal issue, such as a request for information or somebody saying "I'm going to sue you," they need to be very mindful of keeping track of every email and document pertaining to that subject.

It was suggested that a separate email folder be created for that specific case and every email you send or receive on that subject needs to go to that folder. That way your entire email account doesn't become discoverable. You could create a mailing list for Risk Management or XXX Case for all the parties involved so that you can say that only emails sent to this group are applicable when discovery rolls around. Not sure if this holds up or if everybody could always be disciplined enough to do it though.

Don't attach documents to email. Use secure hyperlink or FTP. Keep all documents relative to a case in a single shared folder/FTP to keep your entire network from becoming discoverable.|||A good example would be a company "document retention" policy that clearly and automatically triggers things for destruction, unless manually overridden such as when a complaint is filed. It is axiomatic that you cannot be ordered to produce documents that were routinely destroyed. However, your "routine" will quickly become the focus of the inquiry. Figure out what MUST be kept, how long it must be kept, and then keep only those things.

Note also that employees have an annoying way of keeping things on their "personal" laptops or in some offline storage (for safe keeping) and you may have to deal with those as well. This would be in the form of a policy statement regarding the ownership and possession of company information outside of the central files, and the risks involved in violating the policy.

If they do then how does it work? I would've thought they'd have hurdles.|||If you've ever have the opportunity to attend a Para Olympic meet you'd be amazed what these athletes can do in their sprints/LDR in wheelchairs. The racing chair is expensive that these athletes use. It's amazing their upper arm strength and how fast they can get the chairs moving, and yes they do have crashes. Just try to figure out who was at fault, it's hard.

Some throwers also are strapped into chairs for shot put. As for javelin, standing/run up stance is used by some athletes.

Field implements are inspected for the correct weight %26amp; densty and must conform to the rules of play.

Blind runners are led by a sighted runner (wears a vest indicating he's the helper) by a rope or other suitable lead, however the blind runnner must finish first.

How can I train for hurdles, year 'round?

I need a training schedule that will help build me for hurdles all year. I've been stupid and don't have much upper body. So I want to build everything I need and keep in good shape. A schedule or SOMETHING would be AMAZING!!! And if you just have ways to better my race, submit it. It will be greatly appreciated.|||Wait at least 2.5 hours after eating before training or racing, this will prevent the felling of nausea during and after practice.

During track season, I have had hurdlers run invisible hurdles. It keeps them from unnecessary injuries when practicing and warming up. It also helps them focus on the hurdle mechanics while airborne, without worrying about hitting a hurdle.

Practice while at home:

Place a full length mirror in front of you and watch yourself do:

Hurdle Kicks. (Pick your knee up first then extend your leg.) Pay attention to your balance arm (insure that it gets extended opposite your lead leg) The arm on the side of your lead leg should be moving backwards in a hurdle running motion. Notice where you drop your lead leg, it should come directly back to your standing spot position. And notice how you recover from the motion. (By standing up straight.)

Trail Leg Motions:

While looking in the mirror, stand up straight, keep your lead leg planted and move your trail leg back one step. Bend yourself forward to a ninety degree angle and extend the arm on the side of the trail leg straight out past your head. The lead leg knee does not have to be locked into place. Now, prepare to balance yourself as you begin to raise your trail leg straight up (pull your toes up on your trail leg) and then slowly swing your trail leg one stride, ahead of the lead leg. As you bring your trail leg forward, straighten up and drop the elbow on your extended arm while pulling your elbow back into a running position. Your opposite arm elbow should be moving forward in a running motion. When you plant your trail leg foot on the floor, touch the floor with your small toes first. And do not cross your step in front of your lead leg. At this point you should be standing straight up in a running position.

After you have gotten used to this method of practicing, practice maintaining your balance standing on one leg. First for the lead leg, by pulling your knee up first, then hold that position for awhile before slowly swinging the rest of the leg and your balance arm forward.

For your trail leg, see if you can stand on your lead leg and pull your trail leg straight up and hold it flat in position, being sure to keep your foot from dropping downwards. Your arm must be extended to help maintain balance. Now, slowly go through the motions with your trail leg.

You can, also, stand next to a kitchen table chair or office chair and practice your trail leg over the back of it.

Staying on your toes is all important for 110m (H) and 100m (H). The best way to practice staying on your toes is to practice going down stairs, staying as high, on your toes as possible. You do not have to run down the stairs, just go down them as you normally would, except keep on your toes.

How many steps are between hurdles?

I did 100m hurdles in school, and when we would set up the hurdles, there were a certain amount of steps (steps being if you start with one foot, then put your other foot at the first foot's toe and continuing) between each hurdle. also make sure that you use proper technique with your trail leg also make certain that it lands in the proper position.

if your trail leg is coming up short it will cause you to come up short in your approach to the next hurdle which could force you to take an extra step or two.

in your approach you want to make sure that you snap your lead leg down. you can help this by getting a good lean and attacking the hurdle at full speed. as you land on your lead foot try to maintain your lean the best you can if you come up to soon or to far back it will cause your trail leg to be short.

Lower left back pain after running hurdles?

I do 7-flight hurdles and shuttle hurdle relay. After I run them, it hurts really badly when I step on the ground with my left foot. I have to limp. The next day it is usually normal again, or at least better than before. I go over hurdles with my right foot.|||Since you are right leg lead, and your left leg or foot hurts, it is probably a muscle strain, because you are not flexible enough to run the hurdles.

I'm a sophomore girl, and I've been running the 300 meter hurdles for two years. How should I pace myself in that event? I know I have to sprint the last 100, but how do I pace myself for the first 200?|||The 300 hurdles is a very tricky race to run and takes a lot of endurance, speed, and form. for the first 200 m you stride it out. you don't want to go out too fast and you don't want to jog either so you have to stride which means you go about 75-80% of your sprint speed. you also have to make sure you don't stutter-step in front of the hurdles because this takes more time than a smoother run. then on your last 100m you sprint like no other...good luck and i hope i helped.|||Ahh 300m hurdles, one of the hardest races in track. Would it help me to count 15 steps in my head to the second hurdle? It is very important that I dont stutter in this race.|||Don't think too hard about how many steps you are taking. I personally run the 400-hurdles and my captain runs a 57 in the 400-hurdles race. He says to never count the steps and I agree because it would distract you from focusing on your race. If your first hurdle is fine, what you should do is extend your strides after the first hurdle. Most amateur hurdlers make the mistake of slowing down right after the first hurdle. So basically, extend you strides and pay attention to whether or not your slowing down

I can do it fine...on the lowest notch. But even one up, my trail leg hits the hurdle and I fall. I've been doing it on grass, but my first meet is soon and I want to do hurdles. I just need to get both feet over. Any tips?|||Stand next to the hurdle with the hurdle at the height that it is at in the event you are in with you trail leg closest to the hurdle. Make sure there is something in front of you that you can comfortably lean over and grab, while still standing next to the hurdle. Pick up your trail leg and go through the motion that you do when going over the hurdle over and over, bringing it back down to where you started each time. This improves the speed of your trail leg and flexibility of your hip, making it easier to get over the hurdle. Do 2 sets of 20 every day, this should help you greatly. Hurdling is not jumping over the hurdle, it is an extended step. Always remember, the more often your feet are on the ground, the faster you will be, you are only generating power and speed while touching the ground, so the key to a faster time is getting your trail leg back down onto the ground after the hurdle as fast as possible. Here is a video of another way to practice it in addition to what I just explained.

Hurdlers, all distances - Doubling as a serious Hurdler / Sprinter:

More times than not, this is the death of very good hurdlers. But it does not have to be this way if both hurdlers and their coaches understand this one thing. This is a basket of Apples and Oranges, where the individual is faced with two very distinct disciplines that have no interchangeable parts, save one. And that is the use of the elbows while running in sprint mode.

The most critical part of being good in both disciplines is in knowing how to start.

Contrary to popular beliefs, good hurdlers should not train as sprinters; but should learn the correct way of sprinting. Hurdlers and sprinters can work together during preseason workouts doing 400m endurance base-work and relay work, together, but after that, they should not train with sprinters, especially with starting blocks. Reason, the methods used for starts are different between hurdler and sprinter, the mindset for how a hurdler must start and how a sprinter starts are different and, the mechanics used when stepping out of the blocks are different between all hurdlers and sprinters. When they practice starts together, the wrong information is being sent to the hurdler, the hurdler then tries to implement that info into the hurdle starts and from here on out, all sorts of bad things begin to happen with the hurdlers鈥?skills. A good rule of thumb for the Hurdler / Sprinter, the hurdlers must master their starts as hurdlers and then apply those principles to the sprint start, never ever the other way around. Meaning, the hurdler should avoid applying sprinting start methods to the hurdle start.

Most hurdlers have long running strides with good leg rotation, in comparison; most sprinters have short strides with faster leg rotation. The hurdlers鈥?reflex and uncoiling response is different, than that of most sprinters. Very good hurdlers know that they must set their starting blocks in a very precise measured location from the starting line, and the ones that really know their stuff, might place their hands an inch or two away from the starting line as well. This is done, to help them get to the first hurdle at maximum speed, in as few strides/steps as possible. The practice must be routine and become a habit. Once the hurdler has mastered his/her start, it is then safe to move that start practice over to the sprints.

There is one thing a hurdler can change at the sprint starts and one thing the hurdler must never do at the sprint starts.

CAN 鈥?The hurdler sets up his/her starting blocks as if getting ready to run the hurdles, after the blocks have been set, the person can move the hole set of starting blocks forward, one inch (This will make your sprint time faster.). To set your blocks any closer, to the starting line, may nullify your explosiveness out of the blocks and cause most of your forward motion to be driven downwards towards the ground first.

CAN NOT DO 鈥?The hurdler and coach may notice that sprinters are taking almost twice as many steps to the first hurdle position as he/she is taking, and is being left in the dust at the start, Let It Be. The Golden Rule 鈥?do not shorten your stride, to take more steps out of the start like sprinters. Keep your stride / stepping method out of the blocks as a hurdler in tact. Reason: Habit. If the hurdler learns to shorten his/her steps out of the blocks, it breaks the habit needed as a hurdler, to use long strides in getting to the first hurdle. The hurdler will eventually, and unthinkingly, go into a sprinters starting mode during a critical hurdle event and, game over. The sad part about this is that no one will have noticed the error. Only that something was wrong in taking that first hurdle.

A Hurdler / Sprinter should learn and understand all four running techniques:

1. How to run the hurdles better.

2. How to run the 100m better.

3. How to run the 200m better.

4. How to effectively use the hurdlers starts for each.

What does peaking too soon mean? - ptfa.geo answer:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>|||I'm a distance runner but a team mate of mine got a scholarship and he ran a 14.3,so you need to get under 15.0 and maybe a DII school might be interested.

What is a typical time for 110m hurdles at the high school level? ?

I was wondering what the typical time was for 110m hurdles for high school, i.e. average time. I'm going to join this semester for the first time, and i'm thinking about doing hurdles. Is it hard to learn?|||Go on DyeStat http://www.dyestat.com/ and look at meet results of 110m hurdles. Also, browse around the website, they have top lists and such.|||Really if you have the speed the form is easy to learn with practice. I have been hurdling for about 7 years going on 8, i was never really fast, but over the years i have gotten faster and faster. Just take some time to sit down with your coach to talk about what drills you should do.

freshman year 16.9

sophomore year with running a 16.1

Jr year was 15.1 and i was on time in races

Sr. year i am going for 14.5

between 16.7 and 16 for your first year you are doing really well

What are the hurdles toward constructing a plasma engine?

by this I mean, a machine that generates hot plasma by heating up the air and then accelerating it electromagnetically to obtain thrust...what are the hurdles. |||The earlier Russian space program, the ESA and NASA have all used ion engines on spacecraft. The European space agency has recently built a proof of concept model for an improved version with greater thrust.

Basically a stream of ionised gas (plasma) that can be accelerated by a magnetic or electromagnetic field. These things need to be in a vacuum more or less, in other words space. The advantages of ion engines is a high velocity thrust, for high speed, and operation for long periods and good efficiency. The thrust is small, but the speed builds over time. Only a small amount of the raw material used to make the plasma is used. Often electromagnetic energy (microwave) is used to heat the gas into a plasma.

No doubt there will be improvements over time. Perhaps it is possibleto do it in the atmosphere one day as you suggest, but the current generation would not offer much. In the atmosphere we are after huge thrust and not too bothered about speed.. Incidentally the exhaust of chemical rockets is a plasma.

If you have a lot of power like a nuclear reactor, who needs a plasma in the atmosphere. You can just heat the air, steam etc. There have been nuclear powered aircraft and missiles programs, but the shielding remained an unsolved issue. The link below shows that "Two General Electric turbofan engines were successfully powered to nearly full thrust using two shielded reactors." |||The energy in even getting it to be a plasma would be quite interesting. perhaps if you had a microwave generator in some area away from metal parts that could create the ionized gas (Plasma) out of air and a flame. Maybe a hurdle would be the safety of such a device. If you have a nuclear reactor generating this heat, that would not be fun having cancer in the next few weeks. |||The purpose of this device is what? A massive heater? To push trains?

Anyway, it sounds inefficient compared to conventional electric motors.

How can i improve my times for hurdles?

i do hurdles in track during the spring but i want to start practicing now. I need some ways i can practice without any actual hurdles? i dont really have anything i can use thats the same length and skinnyness of a hurdle so what should i do?|||I think your best bet right now is to work on your overall fitness and stamina. Once organized track practices start, you'll get time to work on your steps and jumping the hurdles.|||Food for thought:

What can i do to train for the London 2012 Olympics 100m hurdles??

I am 14 years old (15 next month) and i would really love to participate in the olympics 2012. I think i would be good at the hurdles, because i have long legs, and i am very tall, and i am good at jumping over the poles on the pavement. Any suggestions on how to train?|||well the people on the team have been training for at least 10 - 12 years but if you want to at least try then start training asap. I am 16 and I have been running track since i was 11. Im not trainning for the olympics but i want to go to college for it. I run at least 5 days a week for 4 miles but i dont do hurdles, i do the 100 meter dash and 400 meter relays. I suggest you train really hard and if you are able to get around 12 seconds then you have a really good shot. good luck.|||Without proper guidance ie through an athletic club or at the very least use of a track it will only be a dream join an athletics club you will learn drills and get winter training for next year when you aim (if you are in England) for the English schools this will set you on your way if you are any good your times will show jumping over poles on a pavement you need to learn the techniques of hurdling stride pattern height clearing the hurdles Ie low and fast the speed for your front foot to come down your back leg coming through to keep forward momentum yeah jumping poles in the street what has that got to do with anything sorry if it hurts but it is the truth|||Run track and train EVERYDAY!!! I MEAN EVERYDAY!!! You have to get a trainer thats will work with you and let you know what to do!! TRAIN EVERY SINGLE DAY, Your dealing with world athletes there not just Americans!!!|||Well during track season for HS...the High Schools normally leave all there stuff on the track like they leave the hurdles up and the mats and stuff so after they practice u could go use it...and practice everyday and get a trainer

How can you get the correct steps in the 100m Hurdles?

my lead leg is my left, and i take 5 steps between hurdles. i really want to get down to 3 steps though. the last two of the five are more like stutter steps, but i just can't get down to 3 steps. i've tried taking 5 small quick steps, but by the end i'm almost running into the hurdle. any help or tips is greatly appreciated!!|||have you tried four stepping? Some people are simply not born with long enough legs to three step, and the people that are shorter and try to froce a three step end up bounding to get only three steps in.

I think the best way to go about this is to learn how to four step. Your time will go down 1-3 seconds if you can get your steps right and are four stepping. You can practice this by first being able to five step comfortably with your right leg leading... then take some small hurdles (about three inches or so off the ground) and run through these at the right spacing practicing switching legs... this will help you get the steps right. You could also practice this three stepping if that is what you really want, but I'd seriosuly suggest four... our two fastest varsisty four step and out thrid fastest varsisty three steps. Practice practice practice and eventually you will get used to the spacing for five stepping.|||If you form is good, so that you are not out of shape coming off of the hurdle then make sure the first step is straight ahead and not off to the side.

If you bring the trail leg around and stuff it in you arm pit so when you take a step with the trail leg it will be forward and longer than if the knee comes through low which causes the first step to be too short.

Also drive the arm on the lead leg side forward and farther up than normal which will help increase the distance of that step.

Place the hurdles closer together.

Move them so that you can do 3 steps.

Once you are comfortable then push the hurdles a little farther apart.

After you can 3 step this distance, then move the hurdles a little more.

Using this method you will over come your fear of not getting to the hurdle.

In practice you may be a little short, and in the race your stride will be longer. After you have the ability to 3 step in practice place the first hurdle at the correct setting, and move the second hurdle 1 foot closer, the third 2 feet, the forth 3 feet and so on.|||taking bigger strides before you get to the hurdle can help you cut down on the amount of steps ur taking|||longer legs

Is there a time penalty for knocking down the hurdles?

I was just watching some of the men's hurdles races and some of them knocked down the hurdles. Do they receive a time penalty or get disqualified ?|||No, but you you get disqualified if you use your hands to knock over a hurdle.|||yes, they could get DSQ'd if they use their hands and (i think) if the judges believe it was intentional....my friend is a hurdler, and he knows a way to do it that will make you faster, but the got DSQ'd, and he thinks the judges knew it was intentional (i didnt see him so idk if he used his hands)|||No penalty except hand but it definitely slow you down so if you knocked down a lot of the hurdle you probably will not do well in-the race or might even fall.|||no, i heard a long time ago there a guy who just knocked them all down because he couldn't jump them and he won everytime.|||no, but if they knock one down theyre basically slowing themselves down|||No there isn't a time penalty.. but when knocked down it tends to slow you down or may result in you falling..|||No. However it does slow you down.

What's a realistic hurdles goal for upcoming spring season?

I recently ran a 7.84 in the 55m hurdles indoors. My pr for 110 last year was 16.27 but I'm hoping to get 15.59 (my school record) this spring. Is that a realistic goal?|||If you ran 16.27, last year, and have trained and improved your form and technique you should be able to run much faster than 15.59.

You are only talking about a little more than 1/2 second, which is not a very big improvement for your next year.

You should set the school record early in the season and then set a new record that will last a long time.

How do you build up your speed in the 100m hurdles?

We ran sub-state today, and I placed 5th. How can I be in the top two nest year? I ran a 18.15 and the top finisher was 14.something. I know that's a stretch, but I'm a sophomore and have two more years to improve. My school has seven good hurdles, and we don't have a track. What are some drills to work on speed? (I can three step all ten, and I already come out of blocks.) Thanks!|||omg, its liam. I can never get on when you are and none of my emails get sent to you. i miss you sorry sorry sorry.|||Hi there,

It's really important for hurdling that

you have good, expensive footwear.

Something thats Gel bottomed I recommend.

I find that what used to really slow me down

in hurdles was that my feet hurt and I would

slow down 'cause my feet where really sore.

When we face many hurdles/obstacles, does it mean that god is preventing us to undertake the work?

It is experienced many times that when we undertake or plan to do any work many obstacles/hurdles/problems we have to face from the begining. e.g

if you simply plan to go out of station you may not get taxi.

You will miss the train,

When you reach the counter it may be lunch hour or tea time,

They may not have required forms with office,

Concerned officer would be on tour or on leave,

The stamp vendor may not have requisite stamps etc.|||May be He has some BETTER Plans for YOU|||When you face many hurdles/obstacles, it means that life is going on. Don't blame God for events that simply happen. Some of them happen because of lack of preparation, such as waiting too long to call for a taxi instead of planning ahead. That's not God's fault, that's your own fault.|||No, its just a chance for us to grow emotionally and find different ways to accomplish, adversity creates strength, the more adversity you have and overcome so that you grow from it, the stronger you become in your core. gaining this strength is the purpose of life, becoming a better soul is the human goal!|||*** Bible Citations ***

How do i quit studder stepping on the 300 m hurdles?

Right now i can only jump hurdles with my left leg as lead. would it be worth it to learn how to do it with my right leg as lead, or should i have a fixed number of strides in between each hurdle?|||1 nobody does 300 hurdles anymore

#2 every 400m hurdler NEEDS to know how to jump with both legs.

#3 you need to practice hurdles ( with steps) everyday AT FULL SPEED

that is the only way to not be timid and stutter step|||ignorant comment i run the three hundred hurdle for a high school track team and its still highly looked upon they brought it to a four hundred because its supposed to be an endurance race and it became a sprint!!

|||Ideally both. If you know how to hurdle with both legs you can adjust if you make a mistake or are tiring at the end of a race and aren't going to hit your steps. If you have a fixed number of strides between hurdles then you can focus on hitting your strides which will eliminate the stutter stepping. Don't be distracted by some who don't realize that the 300 hurdles are still runor that you are not going to be running as fast as you are capable of running at the end of a 300 race when you are tired which is another reason you should run a fixed number of steps. Realize that the steps don't have to be uniform throughout the race. You can start with, for example, 15 and after 7 hurdles cut back to 17, it all depends on your abilities.

Good luck!|||The reason for maybe lack of confidence or technique. You need to learn to jump hurdles with both legs. Yes there should be a fixed number of strides in between hurdles, this also causes studder stepping and injuries. 300 hurdles are still run as a high school meet in some states.|||Actually, I live in Illinois and the 300m hurdles is a high school track event.

All I can say is practice makes perfect, once it's warm out run out there everyday, I can't think of much else, sorry

You could also jus over anything that u can jump over. Lol.|||hang a broom stick from a tree (horizantaly) with two strings and slowly raise it up every time you jump over it. i would recomend using string that is not particularly strong in case you get caught on the stick.|||DEFINITELY do not try to hurdle boxes, sawhorses or sticks or anything hard, as you could potentially hit it and hurt yourself. There are many drills you can perform to increase your hurdling ability that don't require actual hurdles..

I linked you to a page which contains a bucnh, all you need is a fence or something to hold on to, and you do the motions.

These will help strengthen your upper legs and hip flexors, which will make you a better hurdler.

I hurdle in college and do these drills every day. GOOD LUCK!

I work at an animal shelter and we are thinking of teaching some rabbits to jump hurdles?

Through clicktraining does anyone know what size the hurdles are suppose to be and how you go about making them? and how you go about training the rabbits. We are trying to show people how smart rabbits can be .|||Clicker training probably works a lot faster than what I did to train my rabbits, which was basically a reward for the right behavior. I would make the hurdles first out of cardboard just to test, and it depends on rabbit for the size. My rabbit who loves to jump can jump two feet high.

I trained my rabbits to go to their cage when I say cage, hop up and down on command, and come when called. They are very intelligent!|||I've never tried to clicker train a rabbit before (I believe my bunnies to be far more intelligent than me so would be embarressed to try it lol), but I have heard it can be quite easy with the right bunny, and outright impossible with some :)

I suppose you would start out as you would a dog, and teach them that the click means a treat, and then move on to the correct behaviour=reward stage. The hurdles would have to start by just being something on the ground for them to jump over until they get the hang of it and working them higher and higher as they progress (always taking into consideration that a bunny's eyesight is not the greatest, so it has to be something that 'stands out' ).

Found some good websites here with info about clicker training rabbits:

Good luck in your quest xxx

and yes I agree rabbits can be very smart :)

Could I improve my time on the 110m High Hurdles by 2 seconds by next year?

I'm a sophomore (16 years old) and this year was my first year trying hurdles. My PR was a 17.7 (electric time) for the 110's. I'm looking to run in the high 15's by the start of next season. I'm planning on joining a club track team during the summer, winter, and fall. If I train non-stop from now until next season (February 2011) would it be feasible to be able to run 15.75 by then?|||That seems to be a reasonable goal.

Big 15s is not an exceptional time, and I think you can realistically run that next year.

The biggest improvement comes through technique and if you train on your form it will improve.

Hurdling is a lot of muscle memory work, so doing drills everyday makes a big difference.|||A person improves his/her hurdle time by improving on their hurdle technique.

There is a rhythm in running the hurdles. The pattern is in saying to yourself as you go over the hurdle “Step” then for the next three steps count “1”, “2”, “3” then say “Step” again as you go over the hurdle. As you get faster, there will be no need to say this in your mind, as you will just think it automatically. Stop. When you get into the set position in the starting blocks, take a deep breath and hold it till the gun goes off. Your objective is to beat everyone over the first hurdle, your second objective is to never hit or nick the first hurdle. Stop. At the seventh hurdle, your mind becomes clear, stay focused on driving your lead leg down over the last three hurdles. This practice will help you perfect the last five hurdles. Set up the last five hurdles at practice. Lower them down a notch or two to get the hang of this. Slowly jog up to the fifth hurdle and hurdle it, take seven slow steps and take the next hurdle, and quickly speed up your steps to five steps to the next hurdle and hurdle it but as you go over this hurdle you must muster up all of your strength, pump your elbows very hard to take three giant steps towards the next hurdle and try and get over it and, the last hurdle in three steps safely. Hold your form together the best you can but this is not the main objective, getting over the hurdles is what matters. When you get over the last hurdle, count the steps to the finish line and practice leaning into the line, every time you run across it. Stop. College and Olympic hurdles are three inches higher (42 in.) than the high school hurdles of 39 in., for men. Stop. Pull down the white page, to see the black page at this web site. You can see the animation of good hurdle form. (www.ptfa-sport.com). Never, ever forget to stretch well for the hurdles. You will get faster because I think you want it. Good Luck!!

What size running spikes should i use for running a 4x1, high jump, and 100 hurdles?

Okay, so i have asics spiked track shoes, but the spiked are really small, what would the best size spikes me for 4x1, 100 hurdles, and high jump?|||Well... on a rubber track it really doesn't matter all that much to be honest. However, you have to take into account most tracks restrict the length of the spikes so they won't damage the surface.

1/4 or smaller is good, do not get larger spikes, they actually are slower on a rubber track. If you are going to be running on a hard track then obviously the next size up is good also. If you do all three events in one track meet, do the prelims in the spikes, then change them when you are in the finals.|||The best thing you should do is to try different length spikes and see what feel best to you. The two most common spikes are 1/4 inches and 1/8 inch spikes.

What is a good time to run the 300m hurdles in?

I'm an 8th grade girl and I run the 300 hurdles in 52 sec. Is this a good time? What is a good time for high school girls to run them in?|||thats good for high school. you should try and get it down to at least a 42 or somewhere close to it...i ran a 44 in 300m hurdles in high school. its all about form and stamina

How do you increase your stride for the 110 High Hurdles?

I'm a freshman guy in high school and my coach had me do the 110 high hurdles and the 300 hurdles. I am 5'3", and when I ran the hurdles, I realized that the fact that I had to take 5 steps in between each hurdle slowed me down a lot, and I was never able to speed up throughout the whole race. I was wondering what I could do to help increase my stride so I can run this race faster. Thanks.|||you stride is short because you are short but you can make it slightly better. do some high knees which is picking up your knees as fast as you can for a while. then stand in one place and do the same thing on each foot repetitively until its very sore. you can ask you coach more information about this and im sure he would give you a better answer

How much can I improve sprinting and hurdles in 4 months?

If I did plyometrics, weight training, and 800's and below for 4 months how much could I improve sprinting? and what if I started practicing hurdles in November? I know that for a fact.|||Start doing lots of weight training and plyometrics with real heavy weights.

What kind of times are Division II colleges looking for in the 110 or 300 meter hurdles out of high school?

As a sophomore this year through the regional meets of high school in Arizona, I have run a 14.80 in the 110 hurdles and a 40.48 in the 300 hurdles.|||Those are good times for a soph.

Getting close to 14.0 and under 40. should be enough to get into a D ll school.

How to train for Track Sprinting & Hurdles?

I'm planning on trying out for the Sprint and Hurdles teams in about three weeks. What training exercises can I use to improve my endurance and speed? I have a large field next to my house so that's good, but what type of exercises should I do? What should I eat?

Any tips are appreciated!|||Take multivitamins and drink tons of water. Im a 4x1 and hurdler so yea. But i also throw shot and discus but that doesnt matter.

Eat fruits and vegetables. Proteins and whole grains. All the healthy stuff. Indulge after the season. :p

You should do fartlicks exerciese(run 20 jog 40) and keep going on. Make it harder for your self. Increase the lenth of the sprint and just multiply the sprint length by 2 for your jog recovery.

Also warm up and do a cool down strech. Cool down is VERY IMPORTANT strech everything and do 4 100 yard strides and ull be fine.

U can also do 150 yard sprints when you are in shape.

This is what we do in our practice. If you have any question dont be afraid to ask.

I also have alot more sprints you can do so just hit me up and yeah ill tell you.

Gewd luck bro!!!|||you will definitly need to do conditioning work especially if you are going to do the 300 meter hurdels so try to run 4 300 meters at about 90% of your top speed with a 6 minute rest in between each run, do this every other day and on your off days do some light sprinting or jogging be sure to rest though so you can fully recover|||Sprinting, set yourself up some marked off distances. Run as fast as you can for the first one then walk the second keep this up until you complete all the areas set up. (Like a rectangle but it has been divided into sections, Run from one section one walk in second and so on) Stretch out and keep doing it if you feel your muscles becoming tight up. Hurdles Sit down on the ground legs straight to your front, do not move your legs touch your nose to your knees (Once you touch your knees stay (keep your nose touching your knees) for about 10 seconds, (if it burns it is good)

Hurdles, obtain so large boxes (size you can straddle) space them out in a straight line . Then start your running and jumping over them. Keep at it but do not hurt your self (If you feel any type of strange pain stop and seek out help at once)

How to get better at hurdles?

I am a freshmen in high school and I love running track. This will be my 3rd year running both the 300 and 100m hurdles. I need some tips to get better and shave off some seconds from my times. HELP!|||hurdles are very technical so Practice, Practice, Practice,Drills,Drills,Drills

Lead Leg Drills:

Drill #1 Set up 5 to 6 hurdles and set the hurdle height lower than race height; (height will increase the better you get). Practice snapping your lead leg over the hurdle and back down to the ground.

Drill #2 Set up 5 to 6 hurdles 6 to 8 feet apart (distance will change depending on the athlete). Set the hurdle height lower than race height; (height will increase the better you get). Practice snapping your lead leg over the hurdle and back down to the ground, but this time try to take three small steps before you reach the next hurdle.

Trail Leg Drills:

Drill #1 Take a hurdle, place it at race height. Lean forward as if you were hurdling grab hold of a fence, wall, person or another hurdle. Place you lead leg beside hurdle and snap your trail leg over the hurdle.

to work on a slow Trail Leg,use trail leg Drill #1. Concentrate on pulling the trail leg through fast and bring it down quickly.

* Closing the door, is a technique with the arms. Bring your lead arm back keeping it close to the body and pull it back as if you were closing a door.

maybe you're too close, to the next hurdle, the lead leg is not being driven down fast enough after the previous hurdle. Use drill # 2 lead leg drills will help.

* Another reason is that you may be leading with your toe instead of your knee. Practive bringing the knee up before extending the leg.

100mH drills.

set 1st hurdle up on proper mark, set 2nd 1 footstep closer to hurdle #1 and so on for about 5 hurdles, this will work on quickness between hurdles.

Starts

5 Starts over 1 hurdle, 4 starts over 2, 3 starts over 3 2 over 4 and 1 over 5hurdles.

300/400H training drills

First 3, Last 3

first three hurdles and the last three hurdles are setup on the marks. The race distance is run using these hurdle settings.

Run 3 to 5 of these to build strength.

First 6:

- The first six hurdles are setup on the marks. The first six hurdle are then ran at race pace to build rhythm.

Run 5 to 7 of these to build rhythm and strength.

Last 3

- The last three hurdles are setup on the marks, this is used for 300 hurdle training to build strength.

Run 3 to 5 of these to build strength.

You're also gonna have to train like a 100M sprinter, lots of block starts for training the neromuscular system; it will improve your reaction time to the sound and allow for your muscles to respond faster to the impluses.

Make sure your blocks and start position is correct.

Front Leg *The font leg in the blocks should be your "trial leg" for all for the short hurdle races. The long hurdle races it might not be

Back Leg *The back leg in the blocks should be your "lead leg."

Hands *Hands should be a little wider than shoulder width; the same width you would have them to do a pushup.

Make sure you get good warm up and stretching at practices and before races to keep the muscles loose and to prevent injury especially, hams, abductors(outer hip on trail leg), and achilles|||If you need anymore, just email me and i could email you some training and running drills, stretching and weights

About how much time should I add to a high school 300M hurdles time to get a college 400M hurdles time?

My younger sister runs the 100meter and 300meter hurdles in high school and is looking at maybe doing track in college. I'm just wondering how much time should be tacked on to get an estimate for the change from 300meter hurdles to college's 400meter hurdles. Thanks!|||Well I'm not really a hurdler so I'm just guessing.. Maybe you can take her 300m hurdle time and added a time a few seconds slower than her 100m hurdle time. Because you run slower in the 300 hurdles than in 100. That's just a rough estimate though. Sorry!

Oh hey I found a website that says you should add between 15 and 17 seconds. Don't know how true that is either though.

My neighbour is creating hurdles to me in constructing my house in my plot and threats?

I had purchased one plot in my town. Now I have started construction to build a house after getting permission from the authorities. But the neighbour who has constructed his house in the adjoining plot and resides there since last 10 years who is a rude and rough man creates hurdles in my constructing my house in my plot and threats all who go to work \ construct my house.

What is the remedy available to me against him ?|||if you have the building permit, then the neighbor can't stop you.

Will tripple jumping track spikes work for running hurdles too?

My children-girl 14yrs and boy 16yrs-are very good at triple jump and both also run the hurdles. One is healing from a stress fracture in the foot and the other from a knee injury. They both need the best shoes for the upcomming track season. They both should qualify for the state track meet. What kind of track spikes should I get them?|||Get spikes that will work for both (sprinting spikes). Go to a running-specific store, i.e. Fleet Feet.

I agree, a good middle distance spike may cover you.

How do I get better at the 400 hurdles?

I'm a freshman and I've only run the 400 hurdles twice but I really want to get better, any ideas?|||Practice running sections of the race.

Set up all 10 hurdles, run from the blocks over the first 3, then walk to 7, run from there go over 8,9,10 and run to the finish.

Run from 3, go over 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Run from 5, go over the last 5 hurdles, run to the finish.

From the start go over the first 5. Do some of these 2 days each week, do not do all of them on one day.

Doing different sections of the race trains you to run tired, which is how you feel in the race.

Learn to alternate so you can hit each hurdle without chopping your stride.

Do a day of work with the 400 runners and a day with the 800 runners.

As you run more races you will become more comfortable and confident while racing.

It is a sprint you are running as fast as you can for this distance, just like running the flat 400, do not save something for the last 100, use all of your energy for the entire race.

If you go out too slow you are not going to catch up.|||practice! ha ha and yea you'l get better every meet!!|||i'm an 8th grader who got pulled up to varsity and i ran 400m hurdles twice too but my coach tells me the only way to get better is by practicing but also when hurdling on the curves try to lead with your left leg and break the race into 4 sections first being a slower pace, straightaways being a longer stride the curve a faster sprint and your last 100m everything you got and since the hurdles are shorter take advantage and do a much shorter jump conserving energy =]|||the more you run the race, the better you'll get . . . learning how to adjust your stride pattern further away from the hurdle as opposed to right in front of the hurdle comes with experience . . . if you are able to switch lead legs, you only lose 1 stride as opposed to 2 when you get fatigued . . . the more you do it, the easier it is to develope a stride pattern conducive to your running style . . . good luck

I want to learn how to three step hurdles?

I have four stepped before, but I can't seem to make myself jump with both legs all the time. I have long legs, so three stepping shouldn't be too hard. I was able to three step banana hurdles, but I feel a bit to far away when trying it on the real hurdles. I have never succesfully three stepped a hurdle. Any suggestions?|||Practice makes perfect,.|||Having long legs is key to 3-stepping hurdles. You must take advantage of this factor and take 3 long strides after clearing the first hurdle then in a subsequent manner. You must have confidence and long steps. Then practice repeatedly doing this until it is all muscle memory. Just do it.

I run the 100m hurdles and i need to get faster. How do i do 3 steps without getting to high from the hurdles?

This is my second year doing hurdles and i only have 2 more years of high school left! My friend is a little bit shorter than me and she can do 3 steps easily. My goal is to beat her! HELP!|||Without getting into specifics you need to train during winter to build you base speed. A combination of endurance, speed endurance, speed work and plyometrics will all aid you in improving your times. Naturally you will have to work your hurdle drills at least twice a week. (normally when you do your speed sessions)

In terms of technique and going to 3 stride - the most common problem is athletes not driving over the hurdle, floating, then breaking by planting the foot out too far in front of their body mass as they come down, causing them to slow and making it hard to run to 3 strides. Work on attacking the hurdle and driving over it. As your lead leg's foot goes over the hurdle snap the leg down hard and throw your elbow back pulling your trail leg through (dont worry you wont hit the hurdle with your lead - momentum :) ). This will limit the floating and increase your push thru to your next stride.

A drill to use is place something like a cardboard cutout stuck to the top of the hurdle only 5cm high and try to hit it with your lead leg, but dont strike the hurdle, again this limits floating and going too high. - Good luck and train hard!! :)|||The hurdle pattern is to drive your lead leg knee toward the board and when the knee is as high as the board then straighten out your leg, keeping your foot dorsi flexed.

Push off your foot with the knee extended on the trail leg.

Keep your hips and shoulders square, don't twist.

Have your lead arm out in front, not across your body.

Doing drills to train your muscles so that your form is good is necessary to get 3 steps between hurdles.

If you can not get 3 then set up the hurdles closer so that you can get 3 steps. After you are comfortable with this spacing then push the hurdles farther apart, after being able to 3 step this spacing then move the hurdles again.

Using this method you will be able to 3 step at the normal spacings of 8.5 meters.

Sometimes in practice you will have trouble comfortably running this spacing so you can place the hurdles closer, by 1 foot, so that the first hurdle is at 13 meters, the second is only 1 foot closer, the third 2 feet in and so on.|||attack the hurdles. You cant get 3 steps running slow. You're probably being too timid

Are there any ways to prevent stuttering in the 300 hurdles?

I started running the 300 hurdles the beginning of the season. I don't have problem getting over the hurdle, but I have been stutter stepping. It has been frustrating me and my coach. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance :-D|||Ah, stutter stepping...always a problem for when you're nervous i find. first, just practice a lot with lead/trail leg drills, start on a lower hurdle setting and work your way up.

Also, do some strength work for explosiveness over the hurdle and confidence.

Try to speed up slightly going into the hurdle. if you keep that in mind, its VERY hard to stutter, because how can you stutter and speed up?

also, try to practice jumping off your other foot. that way, you'll be comfortable off of either foot, and be ready to jump regardless of which leg you're coming up on.

hope it helps!

~abab|||Do you know how many steps you take in between the hurdles? 15? 17? 19? . . . do you have the ability to alternate lead legs? . . . when is it that you start stuttering? 6 - 7- 8?

. . .do you stutter-step right in front of the hurdle? . . . so you more or less, just stop, jump and run again? . . . it's actually easier to take 2 normal strides as opposed to 4 little ones . . . what I do with my hurdlers is put 5 -7 hurdles at relatively random distances and have them run over them making stride adjustments on the fly . . . it works very well ~ I currently have 2 400IM hurdlers who run low 63s . . . good luck!|||if you run the 100 hurdles you know they are higher and have the same distance between them, right?

so when you reach that distance when running 300 try to do the same stride length, and if you can go over w/ either leg then thats even better cuz it uses less thinking

also, dont take off too too early b/c i did that, i took off about a 1/4 of a stride early and hit the edge of the hurdle and fell and that was in the 100 in a race! talk about embarasing!!

good luck with the rest of your season! hope you get the 300 down, anyways there are only 10 hurdles, so you only have to do it 10 times per meet!|||try to change the length of your stride and don't be afraid to jump to early. if you nick the hurdle, its no biggy, it just pops back up. Thy to estimate weather you need to shorten or lengthen your stride about 10 feet before you jump.|||haha i have the exact same problem. when that happens in practice, i start again and just tell my self to run straight at the hurdle, that way you have to jump over the hurdle or you will run into it lol

Any help?|||Im a freshmen in hs and i run the varsity 100m hurldes and i have been doing all kinds of hurldes since sixth grade, if you are really serious about running the hurldes you almost want to "attack" the hurdle by gettimng your steps down and jumping as low as you can over the hurlde and keeping your lead leg as straight as possible and following through with your trail leg tucked in and your knee level with yyour foot and out like a chicken wing then you hit the ground running once you make it over and try to get over low and fast, thats the best way that i can describe it, hope it helps :)

How tall are hurdles for freshmen girls?

I'm 5'2", and a girl- how tall are the hurdles for that age/height/etc? (I'm new to track- sorry if I'm mistaken on some things). Also, what is the form, and what can I do to get ready for hurdles? Thanks a boatload!|||For starts it depends on what race you're running.

The 100M hurdles have the highest hight, and they will be above your waist, and the 300M hurdles have the lowest hight possible which will be about right at your waist.

The form will have to be coached it's not easy to explain, but a lot of hurdlers are naturals. Watch a youtube video of a meet or something if you want to see it.

To get ready you should work on hip flexibility and mobility. This will make you smoother and faster over the hurdles.

And do some agilitys, by this i mean, place 3 to 4 hurdeles in front of you, touching and walk over them with good form, your form has to be good. And when you are running keep low, many hurdlers make this mistake by not staying low, another mistake that is made is they keep thier head down, you want to keep it up. What type of spikes should I use for hurdles?

Im a freshman girl out for track and i do 100m and 300m hurdles. I was wondering if i should have certain types of spikes for each event? Currently I have spikes with a small heal on them.|||Food for thought:

Information about some running shoes and spikes for hardcore runners:

Key for running shoes -

The better the shock absorption is the better the shoe is. Whenever possible, it is best to try them on before a purchase.

An ideal shoe will fit your foot like a slipper. Your running shoes are the key to staying injury free. Knowing how to use them will enhance your speed. You can wear any type of shoe you want for training in. But you should have a second pair of shoes just for racing in.

Oversize Trainers To Improve Your Speed -

The best type of trainer to wear is one that is either a half or full size too large for your feet. Buy a high quality cushion inset sole and place it in the shoe. This gives your feet added shock absorption protection. This could be a big help against Shine Splints. If one foot is longer than the other, buy the trainers based on the longest foot.

Except for hurdlers practicing their hurdle form, use this shoe for all of your running practices, including high speed sections. When you change shoes for races, you will find that your feet feel light and that your race time results are constantly on the speedy end of your speed range.

Shoes For Racing In:

A racing shoe (flats or spikes) that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. These shoes are normally very light but do not support your feet like trainers. You can make many brands of racing shoes feel very comfortable for use without soaks by placing a thin, soft cushion, flat insole in it. Replace the insoles when they begin to show signs of wear or when they are flat in your impact area. Insoles and arch supports can be bought in some grocery stores. If you use arch supports, place it in your racing shoe too. If one foot is longer than the other, buy this pair of shoes based on the shortest foot. However, if the toes on the longer foot are knuckling up in the shoe, then the shoes are too short - get a longer pair.

Hurdler shoe issue:

Shoes play a huge part of helping a hurdler be fast, especially in the short distance hurdles. This is not practical, but hurdlers need three pairs of track shoes. They need their proper foot fitting racing spikes, they need a pair of proper fitting running shoes for hurdle work practices only and, they need their oversize comfortable running shoes with extra cushion protection for all other running activities.

Wearing Spikes To Train In:

There are times when using spikes in a training section is very important to the athlete. Sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, javelin throwers; long, triple and, high jumpers should wear their spikes when trying to calibrate their steps and starting block position. Once the measurements have been established with your spikes on, take them off and put on your trainers. Use your trainers to find the location of your established starting points. The order of finding your points should be with spikes first and then with trainers, never the other way around. This is because trainers vary too much in size, shape and, length for the same size foot - change your trainers and you change the deminsion of your foot. For this group of people, knowing how to find your precise starting points with your racing shoes on, assures you a consistent range of high end results for your discipline.

Give me some tips for running in the 8th lane for 300m hurdles?

Im running in the 8th lane for the 300m hurdles at state this year and I haven't performed well in the 8th lane in the past. Give me some tips, training strategies or links to help me out.

Thanks|||Get out fast.

It is the same distance in each lane, and your curve is much flatter so you can run faster than you would if you were in an inside lane.

If you run well you will never see anyone else in the race.

The hurdles require you to run your own race, you can not change your speed or pattern because of what someone else is doing.

Now you will run your race, no one is pulling you, concentrate on the hurdles.|||Well, remember that the runners in the other lanes are expecting to catch you on the turn. If you run a hard even pace for the first 100, some of them are going to start catching you. But, then you have to push really hard on the next 100, which will mentally crush your opponents. This is because they won't be catching up to you like they should, and this will cause them to slow down. From there you can ride the adrenaline rush the last 100 meters from being in the front of the pack. Good luck!|||it doesnt matter what lane your in. just work on streching and sprinting between hurdles.

How should I get better at 3 stepping hurdles?

I can go from hurdle one to two 3 stepping and from 2 to 3.

The problem is I use up so much energy 3 stepping and i don't go to fast.

Only write an answer if you can 3 step or have any experience with hurdles.|||The thing is that it's a lot easier to 3-step in a race because you have adrenaline running and you only have to go through the course once, so what my coach does is she moves all the hurdles a foot closer together so you can get more comfortable 3-stepping them. It helps, and I've gone from thinking I sucked to 3-stepping and almost making state in one year so try it out!

What is the best way to train for 300 meter hurdles?

I'm currently a sophomore on my high schools track team and i run about a 46 second 300m hurdles on average. I'm looking for the best way to improve my time as much as possible.|||i'm a high school hurdle coach. 46 is not bad but it can be better. the 300m hurdles is all about keeping your momentum. even when you feel you are about to die out in the last 100, pump your arms faster and you'll feel the extra amount of energy you never knew you had. i believe that you take 12 seconds off your 400 time. if your 400 time is a 58, then that's about as fast as you'll get. if your 400 time is faster than a 58, then your problem is with hurdling. a large amount of hurdling the intermediates hurdles is very similar to the high hurdles. but unlike the 110 hurdles, the 330 is longer meaning you have to use more sprinting endurance. do workouts suited for 400/800 runners as conditioning. the stuttering solution is doing high knees, if you find yourself stuttering. conserve your momentum and beware of stuttering since it causes you to start your race all over again and that means going through the acceleration phase to top speed. in all else, have fun.|||I'm also a sophomore and I agree with the time statement. As a freshmen last year I ran a 57 sec 400 and a 45.25 300 hurdle.

My times isn't great, but I did place in the State Meet last year and I was just curious to see to what my time would be in the 400 meter, only an estimate of course. I ran a .50 flat. Is there any way to tell?|||That is not easy to say since some can not run the last 2 hurdles and the extra 100 meters close to the pace for the first 300, but if you figure you run the 300 in 50, then you should be able to run the 400 in about 68.

I imagine unless you are training for the extra distance your slow down will be a couple of seconds so realistically around 70 seconds..

How do I get faster and better at running Hurdles in track?

I want to get really good at it, but I don't know how. Also, what are some good stretches for doing hurdles.|||The best way to stretch is sitting on the ground spreding your legs out in front of you and putting your torso towards the leg. Another way to warm up is to just run or jump rope. hope that helped!|||worst advise ever.. for stretching you need to do fence drills, plyometrics, and sitting stretchesr conditioning do hurdle ladders (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) and do them at race pace. you also have to condition year round. when practicing also do 100, 150 and 200 and aim for specific times

Try running Hurdles every day for 5 hours a day. And if you aren't faster and better in 3 months, I'd be surprised.
