How can you get the correct steps in the 100m Hurdles?

my lead leg is my left, and i take 5 steps between hurdles. i really want to get down to 3 steps though. the last two of the five are more like stutter steps, but i just can't get down to 3 steps. i've tried taking 5 small quick steps, but by the end i'm almost running into the hurdle. any help or tips is greatly appreciated!!|||have you tried four stepping? Some people are simply not born with long enough legs to three step, and the people that are shorter and try to froce a three step end up bounding to get only three steps in.

I think the best way to go about this is to learn how to four step. Your time will go down 1-3 seconds if you can get your steps right and are four stepping. You can practice this by first being able to five step comfortably with your right leg leading... then take some small hurdles (about three inches or so off the ground) and run through these at the right spacing practicing switching legs... this will help you get the steps right. You could also practice this three stepping if that is what you really want, but I'd seriosuly suggest four... our two fastest varsisty four step and out thrid fastest varsisty three steps. Practice practice practice and eventually you will get used to the spacing for five stepping.|||If you form is good, so that you are not out of shape coming off of the hurdle then make sure the first step is straight ahead and not off to the side.

If you bring the trail leg around and stuff it in you arm pit so when you take a step with the trail leg it will be forward and longer than if the knee comes through low which causes the first step to be too short.

Also drive the arm on the lead leg side forward and farther up than normal which will help increase the distance of that step.

Place the hurdles closer together.

Move them so that you can do 3 steps.

Once you are comfortable then push the hurdles a little farther apart.

After you can 3 step this distance, then move the hurdles a little more.

Using this method you will over come your fear of not getting to the hurdle.

In practice you may be a little short, and in the race your stride will be longer. After you have the ability to 3 step in practice place the first hurdle at the correct setting, and move the second hurdle 1 foot closer, the third 2 feet, the forth 3 feet and so on.|||taking bigger strides before you get to the hurdle can help you cut down on the amount of steps ur taking|||longer legs
