Why is there water on one side of the hurdles in the Olympics?

Im watching the 3000m race right now, and im seeing the runners jump over a hurdle and behind that hurdle there is water. Why is that water there?|||That's the steeplechase race. Its fun running in wet socks !! |||this event is probably meant to imitate a cross country chase event but indoors, the water jump is there as a remnant of running across creeks etc.

and according to the rules the competitors must go through the water.|||It's called the steeplechase.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2065641_compete-鈥?/a>|||I think you mean the steeplechase.

The event derived from equestrian steeplechase where there was normally always a water jump.|||Because that was they way it was... (it was on purpose). Its the event!|||To cool off their feet?

Is there any legal hurdles I have to jump in order to make a website reviewing bands?

I am going to create a website that reviews local bands in my area. Is there any legal obstacles I may run in to doing this? I am guessing I need their permission to post photos of them, etc, but do I need their permission to review them? What about the venue they choose?

Thanks in advance!|||Technically, no, but you'd better have a good lawyer on standby for when you write a bad review and they sue you for defamation.

I want to know if I should choose football throw or 80 meter hurdles?

My 80 m hurdles time is 12.40 seconds and my football throw is a meter past the halfway point of the soccer field. I need to choose between hurdles or football throw. Also, my 200 m dash is 29.56 seconds and I wanted to know if that was good or not. Thanks! (I'm 13 years old)|||go with the hurdles, and yeah your dash time is good, but you could take it down by alot.... like 23 seconds is around a good time for a guy. Im 13 too, and my friend Jeff runs like a 22.7 200 meter dash.. so im sure you can bring yours down :)|||do the hurdle and dash. i would run instead of football but throwing a football that far is pretty good.

Do you think that hurdles in races should be higher?

From what I can understand the hurdles were lowered to make it safer for horses... But greenies and animal liberalists may have missed the point... I think its just allowed the horses to gallop faster and therefore its more dangerous when they get to the jump or steeple. If the hurdles were at a higher level then more caution would be needed and there would be possibly fewer injuries. What is the opinion of others out there?? Does anyone know of the statistics of accidents and falls since the hurdles were lowered?|||I answered a question in a similar vein quite a while back

My opinion hasn't changed any.|||yeah

How can I become faster at Hurdling in Track? Im fast I just cant jump over the hurdles as fast as I run?

Track is coming up soon and I just really need some tips on being better. I run fast but cant find a way to use all my speed when I hurdle do to not wanting to fall.|||Hurdling is sprinting over barriers and you must practice your technique daily.

It is easy to make practice hurdles use pvc pipes or wood.

Work on lead and trail leg drills, and walk over drills, you must improve your hip flexibility and create muscle memory so you can run over the hurdle without thinking about what you are doing.

Once you have improved you will not fear the hurdle.

Modern hurdles push over and are not as dangerous as they used to be.

You need someone to watch you so you do things correctly and if you do not have a coach you can buy dvds and video tapes to demonstrate the drills and actions in hurdling.

Look at www.mfathletic.com or www.usatf.org or www.trackandfieldnews.com|||Keep practicing until you have the confidence going over the hurdles, make sure you don't stutter step into it. Practice the hurdle stretch every day (Lead leg straight forward, trailing leg bent, 90 degrees backward) since the more flexible you are, the less you have to jump over the hurdle.|||That happens to everyone in the hurdles, you just need to practice the hurdles as much as possible so you can run over them as fast as possible.|||brown and black shoes
